13 Nov 2018 "It Keeps Me Seeking: The Invitation from Science, Philosophy and Religion"
Prof. Alister McGrath
Mary Ogilvie Lecture Theatre, St Anne's College, Oxford
Tuesday 13th November, 5:00PM (GMT) - 7:00PM (GMT)
The Oxford launch of It Keeps Me Seeking: The Invitation from Science, Philosophy and Religion, By Andrew Briggs (Oxford), Hans Halvorson (Princeton), & Andrew Steane (Oxford) will be held at St Anne's College, Oxford University on Tuesday 13 November at 5:00pm in the Mary Ogilvie Lecture Theatre.
This book is a fresh look at how science contributes to the bigger picture of human flourishing, through a collage of science and philosophy, richly illustrated by the authors' own experience and personal reflection. They survey the territory of fundamental physics, machine learning, philosophy of human identity, evolutionary biology, miracles, arguments from design, naturalism, the history of ideas, and more.
The book has received wide praise, with Lord Rees, an Honorary Fellow at Jesus, Astronomer Royal, and former President of the Royal Society saying,
“The authors of this wide-ranging book, three committed Christians versed in science and philosophy, explain their perspective with a clarity that will stimulate readers, of any faith or none, who share their wonder at the mystery of existence.”
For this launch event, chaired by Prof. Alister McGrath, Julia Golding and Andrew Pinsent will join a discussion panel, with Q&A, at 5pm. The panel will be followed by light refreshments in the foyer of the lecture theatre at 6pm.
