“Secularism as a Neutral Space” - ALISTER MCGRATH
Secularism as a Neutral Space? Reflections on the Quest for Objectivity and Neutrality in Science and Religion Can the notion of a neutral space in the field of science and religion be defended? Is there a 'view from nowhere' which transcends the limits of any religious or philosophical tradition, and avoids its pre-commitments? This lecture reflects on whether the Enlightenment's quest for objectivity and neutrality can be sustained, and what the implications of this might be for the dialogue between science and religion. It also considers how these reflections fit in with the overall theme of the conference.
